The internet is a great place to publish family trees. There are literally thousands of sites where trees can be uploaded to, such as Ancestry, Rootsweb, and Tribal Pages to name but a few. Each site has its own unique method for displaying the tree, but in essence they all store the same information. It is also very important to note that I check the privacy policy of any site to which I upload our tree in order to ensure the privacy of living individuals. It is a matter of personal choice, therefore, as to which site suits the individuals taste. With this in mind, and taking the views of visitors on board, I have published our Trehy family trees on a number of these sites. You can therefore click on any of the links below to choose the site that best suits your taste.
This site is probably THE most popular site for genealogists to publish their trees on. It is known as a "collaborative" site, because Webmasters can control access to the site and can allow certain visitors to interact and modify records on the site. There are a number of different levels of access which are controlled by the webmaster.
This is probably my favourite site as the interface is quite simple and visitors can create and print various reports such as Ancestor, or Descendant charts. There is also the very useful PostEm facility where visitors can post a simple note, make a comment, or add additional information for any individual in the tree. The webmaster is then alerted to this PostEm and can act accordingly.
Tribal pages is another new site I am currently assessing. It seems to be quite an easy site to navigate. As with all the sites I have uploaded our tree to, it has a very comprehensive privacy policy in relation to living individuals. Again, your comments on this site would be appreciated.
